Meet Laura Kendrew, Assistant Quantity Surveyor!
Laura joined Team Seymour in 2020 and is based at our Leeds Office. Laura is a part of the Renew Diversity Forum and an EDI Champion, most recently chairing the first Seymour Diversity Forum aiming to enhance our responsible, inclusive, fair and respectful environment for all colleagues to work within.
We asked Laura a few questions about her experiences in the industry:
What led you to pursue a career in the construction industry?
“I was due to return to work following maternity leave and wanted to explore a career that was more interesting than my previous job. I was drawn to the construction industry as it offered a diverse range of career opportunities.”
What is a work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?
“Being part of the Renew Diversity Forum has been a rewarding experience. Through this group I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from our sister companies and work together to promote a culture of inclusivity and equality.”
Do you get tired of the stigma surrounding women in construction?
“I am very lucky that I’ve had only positive experiences throughout my career, although I know this isn’t the case for a lot of women. The construction industry, including Seymour are working hard to make young women aware of the opportunities available to them within the industry.”
What advice would you give to someone interested in working in the construction Industry?
“The construction industry is still unfamiliar to many young women, the best advice I would offer is never set a limitation on yourself and what you can do within the industry. Work hard and do not be afraid to ask for help.”
