Meet Apprentice, Luke Bell

Meet Luke Bell, our Assistant Quantity Surveyor!

Luke joined Team Seymour as a Management Trainee Apprentice in 2017, he is now completing his Higher Apprenticeship Degree and is an asset to the team. Luke is a brilliant example of how far apprentices can go here at Seymour, he gets involved in all opportunities and was proudly awarded HCFE’s Student of the Year 2019.

We sat down with Luke to ask him a few questions:

What do you love most about your apprenticeship?

“Being an apprentice has allowed me to gain hands-on experience whilst obtaining industry-recognised qualifications. It has allowed me to work in a professional environment and learn both in the workplace as well as at college/university.”

What advice would you give to someone interested in doing an apprenticeship?

“One thing I would advise to anyone starting an apprenticeship is to be not afraid to ask questions – as you are new to the industry, you will be learning every day, so if something doesn’t make 100% sense, make sure to question it.”

What have you had the opportunity to do/what have you learnt that you wouldn’t have otherwise?

“By being an apprentice, I have had the opportunity to work and shadow fellow professionals here at Seymour’s. This has allowed me to learn in the classroom but also gain experience in the office or out on site. I have been able to apply what I continuously learn in the workplace to my assessments at university.”

Describe the day-to-day life of an apprentice…

“In the day-to-day life of an apprentice I get to work either in the office, where I attend meetings, work with fellow QS’s and work on commercial matters for projects or I can visit site to see works in progress, discuss work with the site team and value change management. One day per week I dedicate my time to college/university studies.”
