Following the successful outcome of the compulsory purchase inquiry into the purchase of land on the former SSI steelworks by the TVCA, Seymour was appointed to undertake the enabling works at the Prairie Site within the South Industrial Zone to prepare the site for future development. Since the project began vast areas of ground have been remediated. Works consisted of general land clearance, the demolition of redundant small buildings and above ground pipelines, asbestos removal, removal of below ground structures, removal of steel structures, breaking out and clearance of site, removal of brick and concrete culverts, removal of materials down to clay and general earthworks to realise a development plateau at a level in keeping with the surrounding infrastructure.
Due to the historical industrial heritage of the site the excavation progress consisted of careful segregation of all waste, such as concrete, steel, timber, plastics. All materials that weren’t fit for recycling and re-use on site were disposed of via approved waste management facilities.
