To complement a new housing development of over 1000 new homes, a new link road and two new roundabouts were constructed joining A684 Stokesley Road and A167 Darlington Road, providing a new route that avoids the level crossing, alleviating the town centre of HGV traffic. The scheme was in development for several years and brought together a consortium of developers and funders including Hambleton District Council, North Yorkshire County Council and the York, North Yorkshire, and East Riding Enterprise Partnership. This resulted in collaboration from the outset, ensuring the successful completion of the project. Much of the works associated with the roundabout construction was completed offline where possible to minimise disturbance to road users. A dedicated project website was created providing project information which was updated as the project progressed and provided a two week lookahead, allowing motorists to plan their journeys in accordance with information provided such as closures and anticipated delays.
