Winner of the ICE Robert Stephenson Small Project Award and Constructing Excellence North East Value Category, Hartlepool Bandstand now named Elephant Rock was completed in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council. The terraced seating was removed and replaced to create permanent amphitheatre seating, providing a year-round outdoor venue for events. Sheet piles were installed to retain the existing rear concrete wall of the upper promenade, allowing for the installation of the new wall and removal and replacement of the terraced embankment. Each amphitheatre seating level is paved, and the ramps laid with tarmac. The original location of the bandstand has been acknowledged through the laying of granite setts in a circular strip.
