Drainage works were completed at the A69/A6079 Bridge End roundabout as part of the junction improvements. Over 1300m of drainage pipework was installed along with 17 manholes and the installation of an attenuation tank capable of storing 300m3 of water and vortex grit separator. Work commenced nearest the River Tyne and progressed up the line from this points. The drainage has been designed to reduce the risk of wastewater entering the River Tyne and has increased the storm water capacity to prevent localised flooding. Night time working was utilised to safely complete the works enabling the A69 to remain operational while works were completed.  The scheme has received many accolades, including highly commended Project of the Year within the Constructing Excellence North East Awards and CECA North East Awards.
