Works were undertaken on behalf of Highways England to the A19 Norton to Wynyard Improvement Scheme which saw the existing 2 lane dual carriageway widened to accommodate a third lane. Following a structural assessment of the existing bridges it was identified that improvement works were required to the bridge piers and gantry’s. We were appointed to complete bridge pier improvement works to four bridges spanning the dual carriageway and 6 gantry’s. Blinding concrete was installed to the bottom of the bridge piers, avoiding existing reinforcements. Dowels were inserted and anchored using resin. 22m2 reinforcement cages were constructed and 200m3 of concrete used to create the reinforcements. Concrete was sprayed to two of the structures to fill in recesses. Overnight working was undertaken for some of the works and closures implemented from 8pm to 6am. These overnight closures were utilised by a number of involved parties to minimise closures required and disruption for motorists.
